Who invented 52 playing cards?

  • The Chinese invented playing cards about the year 1000 BCE. They arrived in Europe in 1360, not from China, but rather from Egypt's Mameluke empire. Throughout the history of suitmarks, there has been an intriguing interplay between words, shapes, and notions. Gold coins and swords were also included in the Mameluke costumes. As polo was unknown in Europe at the time, the sticks and batons were converted into staves, which are still the customary suitmarks of Italian and Spanish cards. Card-makers in Germany experimented various suits based on Italian ones in the fifteenth century, eventually deciding on acorns (leaves), hearts, and bells (hawk-bells). After a few decades of using stencils, the French began creating playing cards around 1480, simplifying German forms into trefle (clover), a pique (paving tiles). These forms were employed by English cardmakers, but the names were changed. Early use of the Spanish suitmarks, from espadas meaning swords, and clubs are what the Spanish staves actually look like may be a factor in the origination of the spade (pique). The diamond shape of the paving tile may also carry wealth-associated ideas from earlier coin suits.

What is the most powerful tarot card?

Tarot card readings typically classify a tarot card called the Fool as one of the Major Arcana. In tarot card games, the Fool's role is independent of both the suit cards and the trump cards, and the card does not belong to either category. In fact, the Fool has no number in the trump suit in the majority of the tarot decks that were initially designed for game play. However, in his book, Waite explores the Fool between Judgment, no. 20, and the rest of the world, no. 21, which is the number 0. The Tarocco Piemontese is the only traditional game deck with a Fool 0 card. In Tarot Nouveau decks, the Fool's corner index is commonly a black inverted mullet. The Fool is one of the most valuable cards in most tarot games.

Shuffling the tarot deck is an effective means of clearing and cleansing the cards' energy, but there are instances when you may wish to do something more particular and ritualized. If you're new to tarot and want to start with a clean deck, this is a wonderful place to start.

  • You've been utilizing your deck a lot lately, especially for readings that have been emotionally taxing.

Why should you cleanse or clear your tarot deck?

Keep the flow of your tarot deck's energy going by cleansing it. A little spiritual hygiene is all it takes to maintain the connection clear and well-tuned. In the event that you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may want to try a few alternative methods of cleansing your deck energetically (see below).

How often should you cleanse your tarot deck?

There are no hard and fast rules here, which is another way of saying USE YOUR INTUITIVENESS. Don't worry about it if you don't think your deck need it. It's up to you how often you want to clean your teeth. If it feels appropriate to you, you can even place a special crystal on the deck each night.

As long as you're placing crystals on your deck and putting your deck on an altar while you're not using it, you may not feel the need to cleanse your deck very often.

Just as there are numerous reasons to cleanse your cards, there are numerous methods for doing so.

Different ways to cleanse your tarot deck

Use the sacred smoke. Inhale the aroma of dried herbs such as rosemary, lavender, cedar and sage before extinguishing it with a snuffer. Hold the smoke a safe distance below the deck with the burning herbs in one hand and the cards in the other, so the smoke rises onto the cards. Turn the deck over so that the smoke covers all sides. Then you may safely put your deck down and put out the embers..

The deck should be adorned with a selenite stone (black tourmaline or clear quartz). I prefer to leave it overnight, but an hour is OK as well.

New Moon is the best time to put them out. You can purify the deck under the new moon by putting it on a window sill on a new moon night and letting it sit there for a few hours. This is also a good moment to create a new goal for your deck.

Floss the cards with salt. One of the best ways to purify the body is to use salt. When it comes to a serious detox, this is the best option for me. You can leave it in a dry spot for up to 8 hours, but keep an eye out for dampness.

It's a mad dash. Mix the cards like you're a child playing with muck on the floor. This approach is a wonderful reset because of its randomness and freedom.

Sorting and rearranging. The Major Arcana numbers 0-22 should be laid out in lines of seven cards across the deck (see photo above). Aces through Kings for each suit are laid out as follows: Various types of tarot cards are available. It's best to look at the deck this way, then shuffle it well.

What religion is Tarot from?

A pack of playing cards known as the tarot (or tarocchi or tarock) has been used in several European games since the mid-15th century, including Italian tarocchini, French tarot, and Austrian Königrufen. Tarot cards began to be utilized for divination in the late 18th century, leading to the creation of special decks for these esoteric uses.

The four suits of the tarot are divided into French suits in Northern Europe, Latin suits in Southern Europe, and German suits in Central Europe, just as the standard deck of playing cards. Pips (sometimes known as “pips”) are cards that range from one to ten, with four face cards (King/Queen/Knight) making up the rest of the cards in a suit. Tarot also features an additional 22-card portion known as the Major Arcana, which consists of a 21-card trump suit and a single card known as the Fool. According to the rules of a game, the Fool might either be the highest trump or a distraction from following suit. Throughout much of Europe, tarot cards are still used to play card games that have no supernatural connotations.

Tarot cards are mostly employed for novelty and divinatory purposes, usually using specially made packs, in English-speaking nations where these games are not often played. Scholarly research has shown that tarot cards were invented in northern Italy in the 15th century and that there is no historical evidence of the use of tarot cards for divination prior to the late 18th century, despite the belief that the cards have esoteric links to ancient Egypt, the Kabbalah, Indian Tantra, or the I Ching.
