A spiritual atheist, unlike a religious person, does not believe in any supernatural beings “God.” They believe instead in a higher consciousness that cannot be represented by a physical body. They think that the cosmos is governed by the acts and intentions of its inhabitants.

This energy pervades all of us and connects everyone and everything on a grand scale, from little occurrences to enormous global shifts. Spiritual atheists think that each person has a soul that needs to be cared for, as well as a difficult-to-define spirit that circulates among us, comparable to energy but more personal and distinct to each person.
Spiritual atheists believe in concepts such as Karma, which control us by enforcing consequences that are proportional to our deeds. If you put good into the cosmos, you will be rewarded with a good life. This is in sharp contrast to the religious belief that God determines our fate.
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is a spiritual atheist who explains why the world connects us all and why our lives are more meaningful than they appear at times in one famous phrase.
He declares: “We are all physiologically linked to one another. Chemically, to the ground. And atomically to the rest of the universe.”
Religion is becoming less popular in modern times, particularly among young people. Despite the fact that scientific advancements make religion appear undesirable, humans nonetheless seek significance. Devotion to the universe, others, and oneself gives spiritual atheists meaning in their existence. Their goal is to grow, learn, and improve in order to find their real path.
The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect both a spiritual and physics-based idea can be linked to Spiritual Atheism. This is not the first time that spirituality and science are becoming increasingly intertwined.
The butterfly effect states that even the simplest activities, such as a butterfly flapping its wings, can have significant consequences. Every action has a reaction, no matter how far in the future or how far away it is.
In terms of spirituality, this means that a spiritual atheist is more caring and thoughtful of both the world and themselves. They are conscious of their actions and act purposefully in order to influence the world in the way they desire.
What is spirituality atheist?
“Being more spiritual” is one of Americans' top 10 New Year's resolutions for 2020, according to global research firm YouGov, and the icon used to represent that aspiration is a person meditating not praying.
According to the Pew Research Center, more than a quarter of Americans now identify as spiritual but not religious.
What does it mean to be spiritual outside of a religious context? For some, both are present at the same time. Others, including atheists and “nones,” may regard spirituality as vital. It has to do with how we engage with others, living more contemplatively, and appreciating nature and the natural world, according to them.
Krista Tippett, for example, has made a profession out of debating the premise. She's the host and founder of the public radio show “On Being,” which includes the “Courteous Conversation Project,” which invites individuals of opposing viewpoints together to discuss deeply difficult matters in a civil manner.
What does it mean to be spiritual but not religious?
“Spiritual but not religious” (SBNR), sometimes known as “spiritual but not affiliated” (SBNA), is a popular phrase and initialism used to describe a spiritual life perspective that does not see organized religion as the only or most valuable source of spiritual growth. Historically, the terms religious and spiritual have been used interchangeably to express all components of the notion of religion, but in modern usage, spirituality has come to be connected with the individual's interior existence, emphasizing the “mind-body-spirit” well-being.
Can a person be spiritual but not religious?
Spirituality is a topic that is frequently discussed, but it is frequently misinterpreted. Many individuals confuse spirituality and religion, and as a result, they bring their religious ideas and prejudices into debates about spirituality. Although spiritualism is emphasized in many religions, you can be “spiritual” without being religious or a member of an organized religion.
Science explains everything
Atheists contend that because everything in the cosmos can be explained satisfactorily without involving God, there is no reason to believe that God exists.
Occam's Razor
The argument is based on Occam's Razor, a philosophical concept popularized by William of Occam in the 14th century.
Pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate (in Latin) or Pluralitas non est ponenda sans necessity (in English). “Unnecessary multiplication of entities should be avoided.”
As a result, atheists can claim that since evolution and scientific cosmology can explain the entire universe and all of creation, we don't need the existence of another entity named God.
What would William have said?
William of Occam, a Franciscan monk who never questioned God's existence, would not have agreed.
But he didn't break the rule named after him in his century. Science in the 14th century had no idea of evolution or how the universe came to be. The only other option was to blame God.
What country is most atheist?
Deism, agnosticism, ignosticism, anti-religion, atheism, skepticism, ietsism, spiritual but not religious, freethought, anti-theism, apatheism, non-belief, pandeism, secular humanism, non-religious theism, pantheism panentheism, and New age are examples of irreligion. According to four global polls conducted by the Worldwide Independent Network/Gallup International Association (WIN/GIA), 77 percent of people were religious in 2005, while 4 percent were “convinced atheists”; 23 percent were not religious in 2012, while 13 percent were “convinced atheists”; 22 percent were not religious in 2015, and 11 percent were “convinced atheists”; and 25 percent were not religious in 2017. The term “religiously unaffiliated” is used by the Pew Research Centre to “include atheists, agnostics, and persons who do not identify with any particular religion in surveys”; many people in this category may nonetheless retain religious views and engage in religious behaviors.
According to sociologist Phil Zuckerman, the number of people who do not believe in a deity globally ranges from 500 to 750 million. According to a survey of various global research on atheism by sociologists Ariela Keysar and Juhem Navarro-Rivera, there are 450 to 500 million positive atheists and agnostics worldwide (7 percent of the world's population), with China having the most atheists (200 million convinced atheists).
Can you believe in God but not religion?
The emergence of the “Nones,” a generic phrase for people who do not identify with a specific faith, has been one of the most significant stories in American religion for more than a decade. The religiously unaffiliated currently account for just over a quarter of the population in the United States.
While agnostics and atheists are included among the Nones, the majority of those who fall into this category believe in God or a higher force. Many people identify as “spiritual but not religious,” or “SBNR,” according to academics.
As a theology professor at a Unitarian Universalist and multireligious seminary, I come across a lot of students who meet the SBNR profile. They're studying to be chaplains, interfaith ministers, and social activists, among other things. However, they may be astonished to learn how much they resemble certain Protestants from five centuries ago, particularly those of Martin Luther's so-called radical reformers.
What is it called when you believe in God but not religion?
Agnostic theism, also known as agnostotheism or agnotheism, is a philosophical position that embraces both theism and agnosticism. The existence of a God or Gods is believed by an agnostic theist, but the basis for this belief is uncertain or fundamentally unknowable. The attributes of the God or gods that the agnostic theist believes in may also or alternatively be agnostic.
