How To Overcome Spiritual Blindness

“Pastor John, how are you? My name is Jacob, and I am a senior in college. I'm currently reading A Peculiar Glory and eagerly anticipating your new book, Reading the Bible Supernaturally. My inquiry comes from A Peculiar Glory, chapter 12. How is it that we, as humans, are accountable for knowing God if God is the one who shines the light into the darkness? I may have misunderstood something along the line, but in view of Romans 1:18–23, this seems like a reasonable question.”

Jacob is completely correct in his assessment of my argument in A Peculiar Splendour that all humans are spiritually oblivious to the incomparable value of God's glory. Which means that if we are left to our own devices, we will see the gospel, Christ, and Scripture, but not for what they truly are: the most beautiful and important truth in the universe.

We can see, but something is wrong with our spiritual abilities to judge the beauty and worth of what we see, so we always choose other things over God. “They do not see because they do not see,” Jesus said (Matthew 13:13). That is the core of sin, and it affects everyone, not just a select few. The only chance for this salvation, therefore — he observed I fought for salvation, for realizing who Christ is and what his message is — the only hope for this salvation, then, is that God would miraculously flash the light of God's splendor in our souls.

I believe the scripture he's referring to is 2 Corinthians 4:4–6, which brilliantly expresses our blindness and God's extraordinary intervention. Let me read it to you: “Unbelievers' minds have been blinded by the god of this world, preventing them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” — therefore our inability to recognize the truth, beauty, and worth of Christ in the gospel. We're deaf. The answer is found in verse 6: “God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts, giving us the light of knowledge of God's glory in Jesus Christ.” The issue is that we are deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafening The answer is a miraculous, God-given vision of splendour.

That's what Jacob's talking about. We're blind and unable to recognize the beauty and worth of Christ in the gospel, so we'll need a miracle to be saved, which only God can provide by shining into our hearts, according to 2 Corinthians 4:6. Jacob enquired, “So, if we're blind and can only be freed from our blindness by God, how are we responsible and liable to God's judgment?” The key to understanding why individuals are spiritually dead, spiritually blind, and can only be redeemed by a divine miracle is to recognize that their blindness and death are purposeful. It's based on our personal preferences. It's due to our aversion to darkness, which is stronger than our aversion to light. Our moral inclinations, such as our wishes for darkness and light, are our responsibility.

Even while the Devil has a role in keeping us blind, our blindness stems from within ourselves, as I read in 2 Corinthians 4:4. It's because of what we want. It is not imposed on us against our will. Here's the important text to assist me understand what's going on. It's in John 3:19–21 that Jesus says this. This is how it goes:

“This is the verdict: the light has entered the globe, and people have preferred the darkness.” — now take note: I adored darkness — “since their works were wicked, rather than the light For everyone who does evil hates the light” — you love the dark and despise the light — “and avoids coming into contact with the light for fear of his work being exposed. But whoever does what is right enters into the light, so that his actions can be clearly seen as having been done by God.”

This is a description of the blindness and death that all people around the world experience when they refuse to come into the light. They refused to enter the light that God shows of himself through nature. The reason people don't come to see the light he shows in Christ, in the gospel, and in Scripture is not because they lack light, but because they prefer darkness. They are not deprived of light if they do not want to be. It's precisely their adamant aversion to light that keeps them away from it.

As a result, our blindness and death are the result of a genuine and blameworthy desire, affection, and preference for darkness over light. These desires, likes, and preferences that we have are entirely our responsibility. They are the epitome of everything that is bad about us. Oh, how grateful we should be that God does not simply abandon us in our sin, but instead breaks in with light, allowing us to perceive, enjoy, and embrace Christ's beauty as our highest value.

What is the cause of spiritual blindness?

We live in a perilous world ruled by the devil and his minions. We must be spiritually vigilant. Spiritual blindness is caused by sin. “Stay and wonder; scream and scream: they're inebriated, but not with wine; they're stumbling, but not with strong drink.” For the LORD has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and he has shut your eyes: the prophets, your rulers, and the seers have he covered” (Isaiah 29:9-10). One's spiritual consciousness in Christ is cut off when they sin. Until they ate the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve were spiritually inclined. They had become carnal and void.

When a Christian gives sin a chance, he loses the Holy Spirit's power and becomes spiritually blind. Spiritual blindness is a breeding ground for destruction. Holding on to Jesus, the sole Author and Finisher of our faith, provides you the spiritual alertness you require. You can't serve two masters at the same time. You can't worship both God and mammon at the same time. You must make a decision based solely on Jesus. King Solomon's spiritual blindness caused him to be perplexed. He defied God and the spirit of God left him because of his desire for foreign women. He sought advice from lesser gods, ignoring the greatest God who had enthroned him.

The Devil's goal is to render people spiritually blind. “In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the glorious gospel of Christ, who is God's image, should shine upon them” (2Cor. 4:4). Immorality, homosexuality, abortion, nudity, perversion, bestiality, and a slew of other wrongdoings thrive in today's environment. However, the devil has fooled the world into believing that these abominations are unimportant; they are simply a normal way of life. Today's society accepts things that contradict God's Word and plan for us. The devil chuckles at humanity because he knows that if they continue to act in such horrible ways, they will be destroyed.

All evil stems from spiritual blindness. All sorts of uncleanliness, including idolatry, adultery, fornication, lying, stealing, greed, backbiting, bearing false witness, mass shootings, and suicide, are the outcome of spiritual blindness, which is common today. Spiritually blind people have no way of knowing when the devil and his demons will enter their lives. Because the devil and his agents now control their lives, humans are destined to act oddly and irrationally once they gain access. These unseen forces have complete authority over mankind, manipulating and controlling them until their lives are completely wrecked and terminated. “For we do not struggle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places,” says Paul (Ephesians 6:12). The devil is the master and captain of a sinner's life, and the sinner obeys his master.

It is impossible for the blind to lead the blind. Attend churches and fellowships that are strongly anchored in the Bible so that your church leader does not lead you to the pit of hell. Invoke the Holy Spirit's might. As you read the Bible, he will instruct and lead you.

What are the dangers of spiritual blindness?

Cataracts, glaucoma, and a lack of good eye glasses, according to John, are three main causes of blindness in Angola. When an Angolan loses his sight, he is unable to navigate his physical surroundings and must rely on others to guide him. When there are open flames, big pits, and holes in the ground, the dangers rise. Accidents are more likely to occur, and the person's lifespan shortens.

How do you pray for spiritual blindness?

Today, you can declare self-evident truths such as “Many people will deny that “men are not women,” “killing infants for convenience is murder,” and “Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved.” They might even call you a bigot or a racist. This is what the Bible refers to it as “spiritual oblivion.” Many people have been blinded to the truth by the god of this world, Satan (2 Cor. 4:3–4). People latch on to things the devil whispers that appeal to their preconceptions and sin nature. This is a condition that affects all of us. Spiritual blindness can only be remedied by the Holy Spirit.

Pray for people who are spiritually blind to have their eyes opened by God. Pray that they recognize their need for a Savior, as well as God's love and provision in Jesus Christ. And pray that they put their confidence solely in Christ for eternal salvation. Our country's future success hinges on our spiritual vision—on Americans placing their faith in Jesus. And it will determine our eternal fate once our brief lives on this earth are done. Our wonderful country will come to an end one day. God's perfect kingdom, on the other hand, will last eternally.

A Prayer for America

Heavenly Father, You sent Jesus into the world to save the lost and to open the eyes of the blind. Lord, I understand that the physical blindness You treated on earth is a symptom of the far deeper spiritual blindness we all have. Lord Jesus, I would not have seen the beauty of God in Your loving face until You healed me. Thank You for allowing me to see the truth and be saved by opening my eyes. Lord, grant spiritual sight to the millions of Americans who are spiritually blind and are unaware of it. Lord Jesus, I pray in Your name. Amen.

How can I open my spiritual eyes?

Have you ever desired for a psychic ability? Some think you should only look between your eyes.

The chakras are said to be wheel-like energy centers that run through your body and influence your well-being and perception. The sixth chakra in the body is the third eye chakra, which is also known as Ajna.

The location of this chakra is reported to be at the center of your head, parallel to the middle of your brows. It's linked to perception, awareness, and spiritual communion, according to experts.

When the third eye chakra is open, it is said to bring wisdom and insight, as well as strengthen your spiritual connection.

While there is no scientific evidence to back up these assertions, the third eye chakra is revered in many traditions and societies.
