What is spiritual sensitivity?

A charism is spiritual sensitivity. Charisms are Holy Spirit gifts (charismata literally means “gifts of grace”) that are given to us for the purpose of the Church's growth:

“The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each for the common welfare…

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all of the body's members, though numerous, are one body, so it is with Christ.”

They are gifts provided for the benefit of others, not for our own benefit. Every Christian is supposed to love others as God loves them, and it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to do so. Charisms are nothing more than the Holy Spirit's overflowing love finding unique, concrete expressions in each individual believer. They aren't bestowed on us because of our merit or holiness; they are simply a gift.

Wisdom, intelligence, counsel, fortitude (courage), knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord are examples of “sanctifying gifts of the Holy Spirit.” (Isa. 11:1–2) These things are given to us for the sole purpose of benefiting us. They assist us in becoming more like Christ and growing in holiness. Charisms, on the other hand, are given to us so that we can share them with God's people out of love.

Because the Holy Spirit is limitless, there are an endless number of charisms, but we can see common charisms given to the body of Christ. Some are mentioned in the Bible (1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, Romans 12). Prophecy, evangelism, words of knowledge, healing, discernment of spirits, intercession, pastoring, or teaching are some of the more common ones. Music, writing, and craftsmanship are all examples of charisms. Hospitality, assistance, service, encouragement, and mercy are among the charisms.

A charism is an extraterrestrial gift. It goes above and beyond what we are naturally capable of as humans. When a charism is active in us, God's grace intervenes supernaturally to help us in ways that are much above our human capabilities. It's a powerful anointing on our life, a place where God becomes especially present in us as a result of the good acts he intends to accomplish through us to further his Kingdom.

Because spiritual sensitivity is a charism, God is very much present with us while we are using it.

He imparts his own love for another person to us, enabling us to love them even more intensely than we could on our own.

“I will ask the Father, and he will send you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth… I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you,” Jesus says to his followers at the Last Supper. (Matthew 14:18) “You will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, across Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” Jesus promises his followers as he ascends into heaven. (Acts 1:8 NKJV)

Jesus fulfills this promise by sending his Holy Spirit to live inside of us and make his home in us when we are baptized as Christians. God himself resides in the heart of every baptized Christian in a very real way. That implies everyone has charisms to help them participate in God's mission to the ends of the earth, as well as gifts to help them become more holy.

What is an example of a charism?

Theology describes charism as a gratuitous gift from God, supernatural, transitory, given to the individual for the good of others, for the benefit of the church, according to the technical meaning of the word charism as found in the New Testament, particularly in Saint Paul. This section covers two topics: (1) the nature of the gift, specifically what it entails for the person who receives it and (2) the various types of charisms as defined by theology.

Nature. The word was employed loosely in the sense of grace or gift by the early Fathers and ecclesiastical writers. It is a favor provided by God not for the individual's personal justification or sanctification, but for the spiritual wellbeing of others, according to Saint Thomas Aquinas. It is fundamentally different from the kind of grace that makes a person appealing to God or holy in His eyes (gratia gratum faciens ). All grace is freely provided (gratis data) by God, as the name implies; nevertheless, because charism lacks the extra perfection of making the individual holy, it keeps the essentially general phrase of freely given grace as its name (gratia gratis data; see Summa theologiae 1a2ae, 111.1 ad 3). Charisms differ from sanctifying or actual grace, virtues, Holy Spirit gifts (see holy spirit, gift of), and graces of state of life in this regard. All of these graces are entitative or operative habits or dispositions that are inherent in the subject and serve the subject's perfection as their primary goal.

Charisms, on the other hand, may be given to an individual solely for the purpose of having a beneficial influence on others. As a result, a charismatic person isn't always a holy person, however God frequently uses someone near to Him as an instrument. Indeed, there may be a link between certain Holy Spirit gifts and charisms, such as the gifts of wisdom and counsel on the one hand, and the charisms of supernatural knowledge and discerning of spirits on the other. In these situations, the individual is given the remarkable ability to impart to others what he has acquired forever through a gift.

The superiority and durability of the graces that make a person holy have no bearing on charisms' ontological and supernatural perfection. God's specific intervention in man's abilities and activity produces charisms. They can be reduced to the category of accidents, transitory qualities, or instrumental operative powers in terms of metaphysics, as they elevate man's faculties to behavior beyond their natural capacity. They include various forms of intellectual illuminations, the ability to communicate with others, and the ability to do miraculous feats, among other things.

Charisms, in the purest sense, refer to unusual abilities such as foresight, glossolalia, and so on. Gifts like ecclesiastical authority, the exercise of Sacred Orders, and infallibility, on the other hand, satisfy the criteria because they are all supernatural, freely bestowed gifts ordained for the Church's benefit. These latter presents, on the other hand, are of a more permanent kind.

Types. Theologians' classifications and arrangements are somewhat arbitrary. “They are ordained for the revelation of faith and spiritual teaching,” Saint Thomas says, picturing the role of these gifts in the Church exactly in a doctrinal and apologetic function (Summa theologiae 3a, 7.7). He separates charisms into three categories based on this criterion (Summa theologiae 1a2ae, 111.4). First, there are the charisms that endow the apostle with great divine insight. This is accomplished by particular faith and the word of wisdom (knowledge of divine things).

How do you develop spiritual insight?

When trying to put all eight aspects of wellness together, the spiritual aspect of wellness can be the most individualized piece of the puzzle. People, on the whole, like to live lives that have meaning and purpose. When these objectives are attained, it brings peace into one's life and the lives of those around them.

So, what are some things you may do to increase your spiritual well-being? It's best to experiment with several ways to see what works best for you. Spiritual wellbeing can be reached in a variety of ways, both physically and intellectually, because it involves one's values, beliefs, and purpose.

1. Examine your spiritual foundation. You are merely asking yourself questions about who you are and what you mean when you explore your spiritual essence. Consider the following question: “Who am I?” What is the point of my existence? What am I most passionate about? These questions will lead you down a path where you will think more deeply about yourself and recognize aspects of yourself that will assist you in achieving fulfillment.

2. Search for hidden meanings. Looking for deeper meanings and examining patterns in your life will help you realize that you have power over your future. Knowing this can help you live a happier and healthier life.

3. Get it off your chest. It will be easier to retain a concentrated mind if you express what is on your mind. You may feel befuddled and unable to make sense of your feelings after a long day or an important event. You may be able to think more clearly and move forward if you write down your thoughts.

4. Give yoga a shot. Yoga is a physical discipline that can help you achieve spiritual wellness by eliminating mental and physical stress. Yoga is taught at all levels and can help relieve anxiety, sadness, weariness, and sleeplessness as well as reducing stress, strengthen the immune system, and lower blood pressure.

5. Take a trip. Yes, it is correct! Taking time for yourself to travel to a familiar location or to a new location can do wonders for your mental health. You will have a greater connection with yourself when your mind is able to block out distractions and assist you in reflecting and resting. This allows you to eliminate stressors and retrain your mind to focus on total wellness. Exercising, visiting with a counselor or advisor, meditation, or taking a temporary vow of silence are all activities that can be done while on a trip.

6. Keep an optimistic attitude. You will find yourself thinking differently and shifting your mind to a happy, healthy place once you begin to view things in your life in a good light. You'll discover that you're more comfortable when you eliminate negativity and re-frame how you think about specific things and situations.

7. Set aside some time to meditate. While managing your time and everyday tasks can be difficult, it is critical to make time for yourself. Take five to ten minutes each day to meditate, whether it's first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or right before bedtime. By incorporating meditation and relaxation into your daily routine, you will be able to clear your mind and strengthen your connection to your spiritual well-being.

Is HSP a gift?

Finally, research have shown that persons who are very sensitive benefit from higher levels of sensory experience. This is a beautiful gift and a wonderful virtue that can greatly enhance our daily existence. It allows us to pick up on small tactile differences in clothing and textiles, as well as scents, colors, and the beats that underpin our favorite songs. Such a gift enhances visual and interactive encounters while also allowing us to enjoy life's simple pleasures more fully.

Understanding these characteristics should hopefully help you comprehend the genuine worth of being highly sensitive and the numerous benefits it provides in everyday life.

What does it mean to be energy sensitive?

HSPs and empaths have the unique ability to absorb other people's emotions and energy, which is amplified when they're at a social gathering, around coworkers, or in crowds. When HSPs and empaths are in the presence of peace and love, their bodies absorb these energies and thrive. Negativity, on the other hand, might be tiresome or, worse, a physical attack on their senses.

People with this attribute must learn to protect their sensitivity and establish balance in order to truly appreciate being around others. As an empath, I want to assist you in developing this ability, becoming comfortable with it, and seeing it as a strength.

I've always been hyper-aware of other people's emotions, both positive and negative. I felt those tremendous sentiments lodge in my body and stay there until I learned to preserve my energy. I'd feel anxious, melancholy, or fatigued after being in crowds. I'd just crawl into bed when I got home, wishing for peace and quiet. Are you able to relate?

Here are six ideas from my book The Ecstasy of Surrender for sensitive people to help you better manage your sensitivity and stay balanced without absorbing bad energies.

How do I know I have the Holy Spirit in me?

Speaking in tongues is one of the evidences of being filled with the Holy Spirit. A Christian can be baptized in the Holy Spirit after salvation and speak in languages. “And the Holy Spirit came upon them all, and they began to talk in different tongues as the Spirit gave them voice.”

How do you let the Holy Spirit lead you?

It's critical to know how to allow the Holy Spirit lead your life if you're a Christian.

If you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, incredible things occurred at the time of your conversion:

  • You were justified – made right with Him – and He is constantly sanctifying you – refining you to become more like Him.

You've also been sealed as a deposit by the Holy Spirit, who stands by you and your salvation. (See Ephesians 1:13 and 2 Corinthians 1:22 for further information.) You've been filled with the Holy Spirit.

However, just because you're filled with the Holy Spirit doesn't imply you'll live as if you are.

Letting the Holy Spirit Lead

It's a conscious choice you must make each and every day if you want to let the Holy Spirit direct your life and walk by the Spirit. Pray that the Lord will pour out His Spirit on you. Pray that you will follow the Spirit's lead.

Watch and listen for opportunities to obey the Spirit's promptings throughout the day. Do it when you know in your spirit what you need to do (and it's in keeping with Scripture). Obeying is crucial, even if it isn't always pleasant or simple.
