How do we get the Holy Spirit in us?
Then Peter addressed them, saying, “You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit if you repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins. Because the promise is to you and your offspring, as well as to everyone who are far away, as many as the Lord our God calls.” Acts 2:38-39 is a passage from the book of Acts.
What is the procedure for receiving the Holy Spirit's gift? How can one “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual melodies, singing and making music in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks continually for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:18-20)?
“Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,” Peter says in his Pentecost sermon.
It takes no significant spiritual effort on our side to be filled and directed by the Spirit of God. Before the Holy Spirit enters us, we do not need to pray a specific prayer or live a holy and sinless life.
God kindly beckons us sinners to turn from our sins to Christ Jesus for forgiveness and everlasting life through the good news of Christ's innocent sufferings and death for the sins of the world (cf. 2 Thess. 2:13-14). The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sinfulness and complete failure to live up to the demands of God's perfect Law (cf. John 16:7-11; Rom. 3:9-20,23); however, the Holy Spirit consoles us by assuring us that our sins have been atoned for in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again, and that we are forgiven and counted righteous by God through faith in Jesus' name (cf. Rom. 3:24-26; Psalm 32:1ff.; 51:1ff.).
We receive the gift of the Holy Spirit when we believe this and trust in Christ as our Savior, being baptized in His name and according to His instructions for the remission of our sins (Matthew 28:19). He enters our hearts, educates us about Jesus through God's Word, and strengthens and keeps us in the true and saving faith (cf. John 14:16-18, 23-28; 16:13-15).
And He who has “started a good work” in us will continue to reside in us and “finish it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, our risen and ascended Savior, we thank You for bestowing the gift of the Holy Spirit upon us for leading us to repent of our sins, be baptized in Your name, and for dwelling in us by Your Spirit so that we may be kept and preserved in the true and saving faith unto eternal life. We pray for the sake of Your agonizing sufferings and death in our place, as well as Your triumphant resurrection. Amen.
What does the Spirit of God do?
In a similar vein, Saint Augustine of Hippo asserts in his Latin book De Trinitate (On the Trinity): “Because, while the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, which no one disputes in terms of essence, we do not say that the Supreme Trinity itself is three Gods, but one. The Holy Spirit is said to perform specific divine roles in the life of the Christian or the church in Christian theology. The Holy Spirit's activity is viewed as an important aspect of a person's conversion to Christianity. “Born again of the Spirit” refers to a new believer. By residing in individual Christians, the Holy Spirit makes it possible for them to live a holy and faithful life. In times of trial, the Holy Spirit also acts as a comforter or paraclete, someone who intercedes, supports, or acts as an advocate. And he works to persuade the unsaved of the wickedness of their deeds as well as their moral status as sinners before God. The Holy Spirit's other gift is the ability to inspire and interpret scripture. The Holy Spirit inspires the writing of the scriptures as well as interprets them for Christians and churches.
Why is it important to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
The Spirit is named the “Holy Spirit,” which reminds us of what he will do in our life, which is to build the holiness that God requires. As a result, “From one level of glory to the next, they are being changed into the same picture. This is because it comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit ” (2 Cor. 3:17-18). Alternatively, He may lead us by impressing a desire in our hearts to say, do, or believe something that is in accordance with God's will.
It's critical to remember that the Holy Spirit will never speak to us in a way that contradicts the Bible. If something contradicts something in the Bible, it is not from the Holy Spirit.
Because the Holy Spirit will always be with us, we may be assured that God will never abandon us or let us down when we choose to follow Him throughout our lives.
“My body, Heavenly Father, is a temple where Your Holy Spirit dwells to lead and guide me. I am neither alone, nor am I devoid of knowledge. As I consider how the creator of the universe might reside in me, I will not take this lightly. Through how I think, what I say, where I go, what I do, and what I allow in these eye and ear gates You have given me, I must offer You honor. And to be aware of all of this as a result of Your immense love for me. You, Father, were incredibly fond of the world you created. I accept what You've given me and accept Your leadership over this temple of Yours. What a privilege! Amen, in Jesus' name.”
What happens when we receive the Holy Spirit?
God desires for your body to be healed and restored to health. You will understand that you have been healed, delivered, empowered to succeed, have direction, and have His wisdom if you allow the Holy Spirit to fill you, flood you, and diffuse you in Him, and you receive what God desires to do in you.

You can't imitate Jesus' character on your own or with your own strength. New Year's resolutions, determination, and good intentions are insufficient. Inhabitation, rather than imitation, produces Christ's likeness. We give Christ permission to live through us. “The secret is that Christ resides within you.” (1:27 in Colossians)
This occurs in real life as a result of our decisions. We choose to do the right thing in difficult situations and then trust God's Spirit to provide us with the strength, love, faith, and knowledge we need to do so. These things are always available for the asking since God's Spirit is within us.
